Balanced Attack Leads Hawks in Season-Opening Battle with Rockhurst

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's lacrosse team opened the 2026 season Sunday afternoon inside QU Stadium, battling through a high-tempo contest before falling 18–10 to Rockhurst in the season opener.

Quincy showed fight from the opening draw, answering Rockhurst's first goal with an unassisted score from Anni Moran just 30 seconds later to knot the game at 1–1 early in the first quarter. Moran finished the afternoon with a team-high three goals, pacing a balanced Hawks attack.

After trailing 5–1 at the end of the first, the Hawks responded with their strongest stretch of the game in the second quarter. Quincy scored five goals in the period, highlighted by goals from Alaina Wilkinson, Emily Leal, Amelia Ham, and two more from Moran, cutting the deficit to 10–6 at halftime. The Hawks capitalized on man-up opportunities and continued to pressure defensively, forcing key turnovers to stay within striking distance.

Quincy carried that momentum into the third quarter, opening the half with goals from freshman Raena Crews, Amelia Ham, and Emily Leal. Crews' goal marked the first collegiate goal of her career, as the Hawks pulled within three at 12–9 midway through the third. Leal and Ham each finished with two goals, while Wilkinson added two goals and two assists, recording four points on the day.

In goal, Madison Whiting Wagner made eight saves while facing constant pressure, helping Quincy stay competitive throughout the contest. The Hawks also controlled 14 draw controls, nearly matching Rockhurst at the circle.

Despite the strong offensive showing, Rockhurst pulled away late in the fourth quarter. Quincy closed the game with 10 goals from five different scorers, a promising sign as the Hawks continue to build chemistry early in the season.

The Hawks will be back in action on the road Friday as they take on Missouri Baptist at 2:00 PM from Spartan Field.
