Box Score Fulton, Mo. – The Quincy University men's tennis team opened its 2025 season on the road at William Woods University, falling in a tight 4-3 match at the Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
The Owls struck first in doubles play, taking two of the three courts to secure the opening point.
Inigo Villacampa and Rodrigo Coello Treviño battled on court one but fell 7-5 to Noel Schoene and Alexander Hristov. On court two,
Gerard Abad Puig and
Patricio Jimenez came up short, 6-2, against Paulo Lopes Ferreira and Tomas Guadagni. Quincy's lone doubles victory came from
Alvaro Rueda and
David Eusamio, who earned a 7-6 (4) win over Leo Haoulati and Ambrose Evamy.
The Hawks responded strongly in singles, winning three matches.
Inigo Villacampa dominated with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Tomas Guadagni.
Gerard Abad Puig followed with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 win against Noel Schoene, while
David Eusamio added a straight-sets win of his own, 6-1, 6-4, over Tobias Hajek.
Despite those strong performances, William Woods secured the overall victory with wins on the remaining courts.
Alvaro Rueda fell 6-1, 6-3 to Alexander Hristov, while
Patricio Jimenez dropped a close 6-2, 7-5 match to Bence Kutasi. In the deciding match, Rodrigo Coello Treviño forced a super tiebreak but narrowly lost 3-6, 7-5, 11-9 to Bruno Matta.
Quincy will return to action on Wednesday, September 17, traveling to Indianola, Iowa, to face Simpson College.
