Romeoville, Ill. - The Quincy University softball team completed their travel slate for the 2025 season at Lewis University on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 19). The Hawks faced the top two pitchers in the GLVC and managed five hits in 5-1 and 6-2 losses.
Game One
The Flyers got on the board early in the first inning with a three-run homer over center field. Another double in the second inning put the Flyers 4-0 over the Hawks. Quincy responded well in its next at-bats, starting with a catcher's interference for
Mykah Hurley.
Lindsey Fischer's sacrifice bunt moved Hurley to second. Hurley came home on an errant throw from the Flyers' catcher.
Quincy diffused a bases-loaded fourth inning with a line drive double play from Hurley. The third baseman caught the hard-hit ball and stepped on third to end the inning unscathed. Quincy gave up one more run in the fifth inning on a throwing error, allowing the Flyers to a 5-1 lead late in the game.
Kaelyn Conger got the start in the circle in game one with a one strikeout performance on the day.
Game Two
The Hawks defense shut down the Flyers in the first, sending the first three batters back to the dugout on infield ground outs and a strikeout from freshman
Kaidence Dumas.
The Hawks allowed one run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second, but it wasn't long before the Hawks got a run of their own. Fischer hit a deep double to right field and came home on a single from lead-off
Isabella Shields. The Hawks loaded the bases with a well-drawn walk from
Allyson Maynard, but the two-out rally ended with a pop-up in the next at-bat.
Quincy was shut down in the next two offensive innings while the Flyers added runs to their side of the board. Four runs in the fourth inning on three doubles and two singles helped the Flyers to a 6-1 lead. The Hawks had their share of excitement in the sixth inning, starting off with a
Kenzie Moss single. A fielder's choice from Hurley helped Moss home. The Hawks shut down the Flyers for the remainder of the game, allowing just one more hit in the sixth inning.
Dumas threw two strikeouts in four innings before
Emma Stieferman came in for relief. Stieferman struck out one in the latter two innings.
The Hawks head home for the final weekend of the regular season with a Friday doubleheader against the Bearcats of McKendree University.
