Hawks Struggle against No. 5 Saints

Hawks fall 24-7 to the Saints

St. Louis, Mo. – The Quincy University women's lacrosse team faced a tough challenge against the No. 5 Maryville University Saints on Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 11). Despite some bright moments, the Hawks ultimately fell 24-7.

Quincy started strong, scoring three goals in the first quarter. Maryville struck first, but Anni Moran responded with the Hawks' opening goal, assisted by Amelia Ham. Later, Ham found the net with a feed from Emily Leal, briefly tying the game, but the Saints quickly unleashed a barrage of shots, many finding the back of the net. With five minutes left in the quarter, Ham capitalized on a man-up opportunity to score Quincy's final goal of the period.

Scoring slowed slightly in the second quarter, but Maryville still outpaced Quincy 6-2. Ham scored a man-down goal after driving from the elbow, while Moran added an unassisted goal with two minutes remaining in the half.

After the break, the Saints took full control. The Hawks managed just two second-half goals, one from Moran off a Ham assist, slipping past the Saints' defense, and another from Aurora Jason, who converted a pass from MaryGrace Cummings with two minutes left in the game.

Maryville outshot Quincy 45-13, but the Hawks held their own in draw controls, winning 16 of the game's 35. Ham led with eight draw controls, surpassing the 100-draw mark for her career. Moran followed with four, while Leal contributed three.

The Hawks return to action next Friday (Mar. 14) against Fort Lewis College at QU Stadium. First draw is set for 3:00 p.m.
