Jefferson City, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball program finished the road trip at Lincoln University of Missouri on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15) with a win over the Blue Tigers. The Hawks averaged over 50 percent from the field in the 78-61 victory.
The Blue Tigers caught the Hawks by surprise, keeping the Hawks off the scoreboard for the first half of the first quarter.
Taylor Haase scored the first points of the game after pulling down a rebound from
Ashlynn Arnsman's floater. Lincoln kept the lead until the final minutes of the quarter when Haase made back-to-back layups to push the Hawks in front of the Blue Tigers.
Quincy's offense found their groove in the second, going 9 for 15 from the field and outscoring Lincoln 26-13. The Hawks broke away from the Blue Tigers on a seven point run after Lincoln brought the game back within five points. Quincy took away 13 second-chance opportunities for the Blue Tigers, four courtesy of
Acheampomaa Danso in the second.
Quincy's third quarter was, again, dominated by 12 defensive rebounds and a .625 shooting average. Quincy shared the wealth well in the third quarter with seven Hawks putting the ball through the net and
Cymirah Williams,
Nicole McDermott,
Mariann Blass and Haase all scored four points each in the third.
The Blue Tigers outscored the Hawks for the first time in the game in the final quarter, averaging 40 percent from the field and sinking two threes. Quincy fell victim to turnovers in the fourth, losing the ball seven times and giving the Blue Tigers seven points in the process. Blass sank her only three pointer at the start of the fourth, and led the Hawk's in the quarter with five points.
Five Hawks scored in the doubles--Blass, Danso, McDermott, Williams, and Haase. Haase led the Hawks in shooting, going 6-6 from the field and scoring 14 points. Quincy rebounded 45 shots, 38 on defense. Williams led with eight boards.
Taya Stevenson had a career high four assists and led the Hawks in the category.
The Hawks extend their win streak to fourteen wins, and stay atop the GLVC's Point Rating System with four games left in the regular season. Quincy will bring it back to Pepsi Arena with a two-game home stand, starting with McKendree on Thursday.
