Quincy Downs Missouri S&T 74–67 Behind Flynn’s 27

QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks bounced back in a big way Thursday night inside Pepsi Arena, earning a 74–67 win over Missouri S&T behind a game-high 27 points from Katey Flynn. The victory marked Quincy's first conference win of the season and extended the program's winning streak over the Miners to six straight games. Quincy led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter and closed the game at the free-throw line to secure the important GLVC win.

Offense was tough to come by in the opening minutes, but Quincy held an early 9–4 lead after five and a half minutes, sparked by a three-point play from Karly Peters. Missouri S&T answered with a 7–0 run to move in front, and the teams traded baskets down the stretch of the quarter. Reagan Reed knocked down a three in the final seconds to tie the game at 17–17 after one. S&T went 6-for-6 at the line in the opening quarter while Quincy finished 7-of-14 from the floor.

Quincy opened the second quarter by attacking the rim, scoring its first five points from the free throw line, including four from Flynn. The Hawks continued to keep their noses in front throughout the period, but Missouri S&T never allowed separation. The game remained tight heading into halftime, with Quincy carrying a narrow 37–36 lead at the break.

The back-and-forth flow continued into the third, but Flynn went on a scoring surge to give the Hawks momentum. She poured in nine points in the quarter as Quincy forced five Miner turnovers in the period and gradually built its cushion. A late burst allowed the Hawks to take a 54–48 advantage into the final ten minutes.

Quincy delivered its biggest punch of the night early in the fourth, opening on a 7–3 run to stretch its lead to 61–51 with 6:31 remaining. Missouri S&T refused to fold, scoring its next six points at the stripe to pull back within striking distance. Flynn took over down the stretch, scoring 10 points in the final four minutes and sealing the outcome at the line as the Hawks closed out a 74–67 win.

Quincy continued to make a living at the free throw line, knocking down 20 shots from the stripe for the second consecutive game with at least 20 made free throws. The Miners won the rebounding battle 39–26, but the Hawks flipped the script in the turnover column, giving the ball up just 14 times compared to Missouri S&T's 20. Quincy also doubled up the Miners from beyond the arc, hitting eight threes to Missouri S&T's four.

Flynn led all scorers with 27 points in her third 20+ point performance of the season, going 12-of-14 at the free throw line to go with four rebounds and four assists in a complete night. Her four rebounds also pushed her past 250 for her career. Freshman Karly Peters delivered her best offensive outing of the season with 18 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting night, while also adding four assists and three steals. Hampton Williams chipped in 10 points and led the Hawks on the glass with six rebounds.

The Hawks return to Pepsi Arena on Saturday afternoon for their third game of the week, hosting preseason GLVC favorite Drury University at 1:00 PM. The Panthers enter the matchup 2–0 in conference play and 4-3 overall.
