Box Score Quincy, Ill. - The Quincy University football team flipped a two-touchdown deficit on Saturday night (Sept. 21) and beat the Missouri S&T Miners 21-14.
Quincy had a slow start in Rolla against a stingy Miners defense. The Hawks were only able to gain 57 yards in the first fifteen minutes, relying heavily on short runs against the Miners.
The Miners found success on two of their three drives in the second quarter. Quincy forced the first drive into eleven plays.
Josaphat Tamatekou and
Brock Inman had two tackles each in the drive, but the Miners' long toss earned the first touchdown of the night.
Teon Dollard and
Kareem Carswell led the next Quincy drive, pushing the Hawks forward 36 yards before turning the ball over to the Miners on downs.
The Hawks made big strides in the third quarter to get back into the game. Dollard had a 28-yard run that put the Hawks into Miners territory, and
Kamrin Cox went down the sideline to the one-yard line to set Dollard up for the Hawks first touchdown of the game.
Quincy started the fourth quarter with a fourth-down conversion toss from
Drake Davis. Davis found Cox wide open up the middle to tie up the game with nearly fifteen minutes to go.
The Hawks went 65 yards on their game-winning drive with Davis finding Anthony Gilpin, Jr., on a 24-yard toss.
Johnnie Robinson broke up two passes in the next Miners drive to keep the lead. The Hawks kept the Miners out of the red zone for the final seven minutes of the game, earning their first win on Rolla soil since 1998.
Davis went 17 for 24 in the air with two touchdowns in Saturday night's contest. Dollard led the Hawks in rushing yards with 119 on 21 attempts. In addition to scoring the winning touchdown, Gilpin, Jr., led the Hawks with six receptions for 68 yards, and on defense,
Brock Wiley led the Hawks with six solo tackles and one assist.
The Hawks return home for the Homecoming weekend game at 1pm on Saturday, September 28th. Quincy will face Upper Iowa University.
