Findlay, Ohio. - The Hawks kicked off the 24-25 campaign at the GMAC-GLVC Crossover, falling to the host, Oilers of Findlay by a 97-79 final score.
The first basket of the season came on a
John Kelly III layup off a feed from
Jake Hamilton about a minute and a half into the ball game as the Hawks entered the first media timeout trailing 12-9.
QU stuck within a couple possessions for the majority of the first half, but was unable to halt a late run in the final minutes of the frame as a UF offense that shot 48% in the first half burned Quincy for a 13-2 run in the closing 3:39 to lead it 50-33 at the break.
The Hawks had an explosive half of scoring in the final 20 minutes, lighting it up from all over to the tune of 58% as a team, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit as Findlay retained it's heat through the break.
A 54% shooting half from UF that included seven threes served as an effective response to the Hawks hot shooting and kept the Oilers in prime position for the remainder of the contest.
Max Booher led all scorers in his collegiate debut for the Hawks, pouring in 21 points on an efficient 6-10 shooting from the field, including five strikes from beyond the arch in nine attempts while turning in a 4-5 performance at the charity stripe.
Ethyn Brown and
Joshua Bocher joined Booher in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively. Bocher also spearheaded the Hawks effort on the boards, finishing just two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight, helping lift his team to a +9 rebounding margin.
The Hawks are back in action tomorrow (Nov. 9) for day two of the GMAC-GLVC Crossover, facing off against the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 PM from Findlay, OH.
