Bolivar, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball program took on the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats for the second time this season (and month) on Saturday. The Hawks improved from their January 6th match-up and beat the Bearcats 72-64.
Despite a tremendous win for the Hawks, who are now 6-7 in conference, the game began in favor of the Bearcats. Southwest Baptist rarely missed shots in the first quarter, forcing the Hawks into a chase once again. The second quarter fared better for the Hawks, going 50 percent from the field.
The Hawks scored 22 points each in the final two quarters and forced the Bearcats further away from a win. The best defensive quarter the Hawks have seen this season came from in the fourth quarter when the Hawks kept the Bearcats to just four points.
For the second game in a row, four Hawks scored in the double digits.
Kealani Neves led the Hawks with fifteen points, two assists, and three rebounds.
Mariann Blass,
Cymirah Williams, and
Janiece Dawson each had fourteen points to add to the mix.
The Hawks are excited to be back in Pepsi next weekend when they take on the Kansas City duo of Rockhurst and William Jewell.
