Box Score Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University women's lacrosse team began their senior weekend on Friday (Apr. 14) against McKendree University. The Hawks fell in the last quarter 11-9.
The Bearcats came out strong with three unanswered goals in the first ten minutes. A quick Quincy timeout kick-started
Danielle Robinson who, after the draw control, took the ball straight to goal and clipped in the Hawks' first goal of the contest.
Amelia Ham put up the second tally for the Hawks followed by back-to-back-to-back goals for McKendree. Josie Szamanda broke the silence with a quick shot off an
Amelia Ham assist. Just a minute later,
Patricia Chavira put her first goal on the board off a quick pass from
Danielle Robinson.
Bianca Johnson closed the score gap just before the half with a man-up advantage goal.
The game became quite physical as both teams edged for a comfortable lead. Quincy added to their scoreboard five minutes into the third quarter with another
Danielle Robinson goal. McKendree responded with a goal of their own only to fall back into a tied game to a
Patricia Chavira man-up goal.
Chavira posted two more goals in the final quarter of the match to take the lead, the first assisted by Josie Szamanda and the second fired into the net off in a free position shot. Chavira's rocket concluded the Hawks scoring for the night, leaving them to an 11-9 deficit.
Kelly McClure had 15 saves for the Hawks this evening, third most she has made this season.
The Hawks will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday (Apr. 16) against Maryville at noon.
