Richardson's 25 Lifts Hawks Over Wayne State in Hansen-Spear Classic

QUINCY, Ill. - The Hawks followed up a win over East-West yesterday with another winner on Sunday (Dec. 17), taking down the Warriors of Wayne State University 66-55 to close out as the two-game Hansen-Spear Holiday Classic tournaments only undefeated team.

Zion Richardson matched his career high with the Hawks, pouring in 25 as he did last season against Drury on 1/16/, but this time adding 10 boards for the third double-double of his QU career. For his outstanding performance, Richardson garnered tournament MVP recognition, being joined on the All-Tournament team by Isaiah Foster.

Quincy got on the board first with a bucket from Nate Shockey. A three-pointer from Richardson, following a WSU three-pointer, put the Hawks ahead 5-3 for their final lead of the half. After the Warriors knotted the score at 5-5, QU did so as well later in the quarter at 10-10 and 13-13 deadlocks, but weren't able to get over the hump.

In the mean time, 15 points from Richardson and nine from Shockey helped keep the Hawks hanging around in the first half, never trailing by more than a few possessions and pulling into halftime well within striking distance, trailing 36-33.

The Warriors added a point to their advantage at 40-36 with 18:15 to play before a four and a half minute cold streak took hold of both teams. Shortly after at the 11:37 mark, a layup from Richardson gave Quincy it's first lead in nearly 25 minutes at 43-42. WSU converted on a couple free throws at the 10:01 mark to take its last lead of the contest 46-45.

A jumper from Isaiah Foster not only gave the Hawks the lead once more, but sparked an 11-3 from his side to burst out in front 57-48 with six to play. Later in the half at 3:15 a layup from Richardson put the Hawks up double figures and it stayed that way for the remainder of the game, giving Quincy a 66-55 winner.

Up next for the Hawks is the resumption of their GLVC schedule with a bird-battle against the Hawks of Rockhurst University in Kansas City on Wednesday (Jan. 3). The feathery fight between the GLVC foes is slated for 7:30 PM.
