Quincy, Ill. – The Quincy University Football team opens the season on Thursday (September 1) at QU Stadium. This will be the first Thursday night game in program history.

Scouting the Hawks
Gary Bass enters his sixth year as the leader of the Hawk program. During the 2021 season, the Hawks went 4-7 and 2-5 in GLVC play. From last years' team, they return 17 starters, 8 on the offensive side and 9 on the defensive side.
Quarterback
Tionne Harris returns as the leader of the offense after breaking the school record for touchdowns with 26 during the 2021 season. He threw for over 2,500 yards, posting a QB rating of 141.08.
Protecting Harris will be a task for a returning veteran offensive line, which is anchored by B.J Wilson. Wilson (two-time team captain) has earned Shrine Bowl and Reese's Senior Bowl Watchlist recognition. Wilson was named to the GLVC All-Second Team last year.
On the defensive side of the ball, the unit will be anchored by a strong linebacker core. In the Linebacker room, Graduate Student
Peyten Chappel looks to be the leader and is a two-time team captain. Chappel recorded 95 total tackles, 2 sacks and 5 interceptions last year and was named to the GLVC All-Second Team.
Scouting the Pioneers
The Pioneers are coached by Mike Kellar who is entering his 3
rd season as the leader of the program. Last season they went 3-7, all in the Mountain East Conference. They return their top rusher in Alfred Mejor who had 797 yards on 175 carries and seven touchdowns.
GSC will have a new quarterback under center behind an offensive line unit which only allowed 1.1 sacks per game.
Defensive back Brandon Penn had a team-high seven interceptions. Linebacker Seth Arnold recorded 89 tackles, 56 of those were solo.
They return their punter and kicker. Josh Jones made 13 field goals with a long of 43 yards last season.
