Arkadelphia, Ark. – The Hawk Women's Volleyball team played their final two matches in the Reddie – Tiger Invitational on Saturday (August 27). In the morning session, they swept the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith (25-16, 25-23, 25-15). To wrap up the tournament, the Hawks pulled off their fourth consecutive sweep over the host school, Henderson State University (25-13, 25-19, 25-13).
Makayla Knoblauch and
Alice Pavan were named the All-Tournament team.
After sweeping all four of the matches at the Reddie – Tiger Invitational, the 2022 Volleyball team has made school history (NCAA era back to 1994) as the first time this feat has been accomplished to open a season.
Match 1 vs UA – Fort Smith
During set one, the Hawks pulled out to a 9-5 lead, but UAFS would tie the set at 10. On back-to-back kills by
Emma Wijnbergen, Quincy pulled out to a 16-12 lead. QU finished the set on a 7-2 run thanks to multiple errors by the Lions.
The 2
nd set was much closer and the two teams went back and forth trading points. Late in the set, the Hawks trailed at 20-19.
Mattison Norris led the charge down the stretch as she registered a couple of kills to help the Hawks secure the set win.
The 3
rd set, the Hawks trailed in the early going. A kill by Wijnbergen tied the set at 9. Back-to-back aces by
Makayla Knoblauch gave the Hawks the 12-9 lead. Quincy finished the set on a 10-4 run, sparked by multiple kills by Norris, Wijnbergen and
Emily Rehagen.

Match 2 vs Henderson State University
The Hawks jumped out a fast start as they saw their lead grow to 11-3. During that stretch, Wijnbergen recorded three kills. The Reddies clawed back to within 13-9, but QU rattled off four straight points to make it 17-9. The Hawk ballooned to 21-11, before taking the set by the score of 25-13.
To open the 2
nd set, the Hawks had to battle from behind in the early going as the Reddies jumped out to a 4-1 lead. A kill by
Alice Pavan tied the match at 9. From that point on, the set was back and forth. Towards the end of the set, the Reddies committed a few errors, in which the Hawks took advantage of to take the set.
The offensive attack remained hot as they opened up to a 5-0 lead. HSU got to within 7-4, but the Hawks kept their foot on the attack. They finished the set and match on a 9-4 run.
