SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – For the second time in ten games, the Hawks have used last second shots to come out victorious. That was the case on Saturday afternoon at Drury University.
Nate Shockey would be wide open at the wing to hit the game winning shot with four seconds left and help the Hawks to the 67-64 win over the Panthers.
Paul Zilinskas got the offensive going as he would score the first five out of 8 points to see QU take the early 8-6 lead.
Malik Hardmon hit back-to-back jumpers at the midway point of the half to give the Hawks a seven point lead. Quincy extended its lead to 14 thanks to a 17-4 run over a three minute stretch. The Hawks would end up taking a 12 point lead into the locker room.
The Panthers used the opening six minutes and change to cut the QU lead to 3, thanks to an 11-2 run.
Nate Shockey completed a 3-point play with six minutes and 49 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Hawks a ten point lead. Drury got back to within 4 on a 9-3 spurt as the clock was winding down. Former Hawk and Drury grad student
Adam Moore tied the game at 64 with 13 seconds left, forcing the Hawks to go 94 feet for the win. Zilinskas would bring the ball into the front court, he drove and found Shockey open on the wing for the 3.
The Hawks will return home as they host the Hansen – Spear Funeral Home Classic on December 17
th and 18
th.
