QUINCY, Ill. – Looking for their first conference win of the season, the Hawks were hosting the Lewis University Flyers on Monday evening, November 28. The Flyers came away with the close victory by the score of 73-64.
The Flyers jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but a lay-up by
Sarah Nelson with under seven minutes to play cut the lead to a single point. Lewis proceeded to go on an 8-2 run over the next two and a half minutes to regain the eight point lead. QU responded with a 7-0 run of their own to trail the Flyers by one after the opening 10 minutes of action.

Emma Knipe saw the Hawks tie the contest just three minutes into the 2
nd quarter. QU would take its first lead of the game on a 3-pointer by
Rylee Denbow with two minutes left in the quarter. The lead would trade hands a few more times down the stretch, with the Flyers ultimately taking a two point at the halftime break.
Lewis held steady with their lead, growing to as large as six points on a three by Taylor Gugliuzza. Gugliuzza led the Flyers with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The lead would swell to a 12 point margin as the Flyers went on a 9-0 run. After a timeout by Coach
Kaci Bailey, the Hawks answered with a 12-2 run to get the margin back within a single possession heading into the final quarter.
Emma Knipe tied the game at 51 apiece just nine seconds into the final stanza. Gugliuzza led a 7-0 run with five of the points to give Lewis an eight point lead. The Hawks got to within four points with three minutes left to play, but that was the closest they would get for the rest of the game.
