QUINCY, Ill. – Facing fellow GLVC member, University of Missouri – St. Louis in the Midwest Regional Semi-finals, the Hawks were looking to defend their home court. Unfortunately, the Tritons came away with the win in four sets (15-25, 25-18, 25-27, 14-25). The Hawks finish the season with an overall record of 28-3.
Set 1
Despite being close early, the Tritons managed to put together and 8-3 run to take a 16-9 lead in the opening set. Back-to-back kills by
Alice Pavan got the Hawks the closest they would get to the Tritons at 19-13. UMSL took the set by scoring the final six out of eight points.
Set 2
The Hawks looked to have hit the reset button after the opening set as they would see a 9-7 expand to a 14-10 lead. Kills by
Emily Rehagen and
Emma Wijnbergen made it a 20-15 lead and the Hawks would not look back as they would even the match at a set a piece.
Set 3
The third set was the turning point of the match. A kill by
Makayla Knoblauch gave the Hawks a commanding 16-9 lead, but the Tritons would not back down. A 7-1 Triton run tied the set at 18 all. UMSL went on to score 4 of the final 5 points to take the lead in the match.
Set 4
Scoring the first 11 out of 13 points, the Tritons came out of the gate in sync in the early part of the set. The Hawks strung together a 6-2 run to get to within 22-12, but unfortunately the Hawks would lose the set and the match.
