HILLSDALE, Mich. – Being limited to a shooting percentage of 33%, the Hawks fell to the host Hillsdale Chargers in the final game of the Midwest Region Crossover by the score of 66-55.
Despite being evenly matched through most of the first quarter, Hillsdale went on an 8-0 run into the beginning stages of the 2
nd stanza to take an 8-point lead. Back-to-back layups by
Naelyn Rios and
Cymirah Williams cut the Charger lead in half.
Beth Matas Martin hit a 3-pointer and a layup on consecutive possessions to keep the Hawks within reach of the Chargers. HC hit a layup with less than 30 seconds left in the half to take a double digit margin into the locker room.
Late in the 3
rd quarter, the Hawks got the game to within four on baskets by Matas Martin and Williams, but the Chargers answered directly back. HC went on a 10-0 run to take a 14 point lead with nine minutes to play. Matas Martin hit a three pointer to get the margin to 15, but HC answered back to take their largest lead of the contest at 18 points with four minutes to play.
Kaci Bailey's team will debut at home in the Hansen – Spear Classic on Friday (November 18
th) against Rogers State (Okla.) at 7:30 p.m.
