Hawks Drop GLVC Semifinal Match Against Lewis

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – In the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament semifinals for the seventh time in program history, the top-seeded Hawks took on the fourth-seeded Lewis University Flyers and got swept (21-25, 18-25, 21-25).

The NCAA Selection Show is on Sunday, November 13th at 9:30 p.m. That's when the Hawks will find out their fate in the Midwest Region.

Set 1
The Flyers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set and carried that momentum throughout the set. Consecutive kills by Bella Ray, saw the Flyers lead grow to 8-3. Lewis kept the lead at 15-9, forcing the Hawks to call a time out. Ray finished off the set for Lewis to give them the opening set win.

The Hawks were held to a hitting percentage of just .132.

Set 2
The middle set was tight in the early going as both teams were knotted at 3. After that, the Flyers went on a 6-2 run to take a 9-5 lead. Emma Wijnbergen registered three consecutive kills to try and keep the Hawks in the contest, but the Flyers held to their four point margin. Lewis scored the last 4 out of 5 points in the set to take a commanding lead in the match.

Set 3
Back-to-back kills by Bella Ray gave the Flyers the 6-2 lead and carried their momentum from the opening two sets. The Hawks got to within 8-7 on an Alice Pavan kill, but the Flyers scored the next 6 points to take a sizable lead in the set. That run was too much for the Hawks to overcome as the Flyers took the set and the match.
