Hawks Struggle From Floor, Upended by Screaming Eagles

The Quincy University men's basketball team fell to the University of Southern Indiana 80-65 in a GLVC matchup at Pepsi Arena on Saturday (Jan 29) afternoon.

The Hawks scored their first points early in the first half, with Charles Callier sinking a jumper to tie the game at 2 with 18:50 remaining. Callier later secured the Hawks' only lead of the game with a three-pointer, making the score 8-7 QU with 16:18 remaining. The Screaming Eagles pulled away afterwards, with the closest the Hawks came to taking the lead afterwards being when a Jalen Stamps layup brought the score to 22-20 SIU with 10:27 remaining. However, the Screaming Eagles went on a tear, leading to the half ending with the Hawks being behind 42-30.

The second half started rough for QU, not scoring at all until Callier made a three-pointer with 14:57 remaining, making the score 51-33 USI. The Hawks stayed at a double-digit deficit for the remainder of the game, with their final points coming from two free throws by Adam Price as they finished the game at an 80-65 loss.

Jalen Stamps led the Hawks with 14 points in 23 minutes of play. Charles Callier scored 11 points in 23 minutes, Jamaurie Coakley scored 10 points in 19 minutes, and Solomon Gustafson scored 8 points with a team-leading 10 rebounds in 28 minutes.
