EMPORIA, KS.-- The Quincy University softball team dropped both of its contests on Sunday in the 5-State Classic on Sunday (March 7) afternoon. The Hawks fell 13-1 to Washburn and dropped a 5-1 decision against Emporia State.
Game 1
Washburn put the game out of reach in the third inning. Washburn scored nine runs in the bottom of the third and added four more in the fourth. The Hawks scratched one run across on a pinch hit home run by Maddy Wear in the fifth. The game concluded after five innings and the Hawks were held to just two hits.
Game 2
Emporia State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second after a Hawks fielding error. Emporia added to its lead in the fourth on another error and led 2-0. In the sixth, Jayle Jenning singled to center field to drive in Ashley Gerber and made the score 2-1 in the sixth. ESU added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-1 and held the Hawks in check in the seventh to take the win.
