Hawks Make Late Push; Drop Midweek Doubleheader With Lions

ST. CHARLES, MO - The Quincy University softball team visited Lindenwood University for a GLVC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon (March 16). The Hawks played two tight games but dropped both, 1-0 and 6-4.

Game 1
Quincy had to wait two extra days to play Tuesday's matchups after they had been moved from Sunday to today. Starting pitcher Mac Kenzie Collier threw a gem in game one as she went six strong with six strikeouts, allowed three hits, and gave up just one run. Quincy recorded six hits in the game but was unable to scratch one across. Jayle Jennings led the charge by going 2-for-3 with a double.

Jennings doubled in the top of the sixth which was followed by a bunt single from Courtney Kernich. Kernich stole second in the next at bat to bring the meat of Quincy's lineup to the plate with runners on second and third and no outs. The Hawks were unable to capitalize as the next three Hawks were retired in order. QU fell 1-0.

Game 2
The Hawks were the first to strike in game two as Bailey Mitchell hit one out of the park in the top of the second inning to make it 1-0 Hawks early. The Lions answered in the bottom half with a homer to tie it up, 1-1. Lindenwood scored once again in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead, but the Hawks had the immediate answer when Mitchell hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth. The Lions deflated the Hawks momentum after rallying for four more runs in the bottom half to take a 6-2 lead. QU tried to fight back in their final at bat behind an RBI single from Kernich and an RBI double from Kari Sarhage, but that was the extent of the late game scoring. Quincy dropped game two 6-4.
