Hawks Win Hansen-Spear Funeral Home Classic Behind Nate Shockey's 29 Points

Quincy, IL – The Quincy University men's basketball team finished the Hansen Spear Funeral Home Classic on Sunday (Dec.19) against Davenport University with a tremendous 91-81 win. The Hawks made 24 of 30 free throw shots, and Nate Shockey led the team with 29 points while he added 15 points in the second half and had five rebounds. 


Davenport opened the game with a 11-3 run, but QU responded with Jalen Stamps buckets and Malik Hardmon scored to suge QU with a 9-0 run. 


The Hawks won the battle on the glass with Davenport 20-14 before heading into the second half with a 32-25 lead. 

Junior Malik Hardmon brought in the fire by scoring 18 points in the second half. He went 7 for 11 from the field and shot 80% from the free throw line. Hardmon also added 5 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal. 


QU played extremely well in the second half, where 7 players on the floor were able to score points and contribute towards the victory. Jamaurie Coakley was unstoppable with creating opportunities for his teammates, while giving out 8 assists and stealing 4 balls. The Senior also led the team in rebounds, while collecting 7 boards.

Davenport got in foul trouble, which helped the Hawks to secure the victory in the tournament. Hawks had 24 second chance points, while Davenport was not able to keep up with the QU and only had 16 second chances points.


One of the biggest key factories to the win was the Hawks bench scoring 31 points in the second half to bring the win. 

With this win QU Hawks are heading into the break with a 3-0 record for the week. 

 

Tournament MVP was Nate Shockey from Quincy University.
