Hawks Roar Back In Second Half to Defeat Purdue Northwest

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team found themselves trailing by three points at halftime but outscored Purdue Northwest 42-28 in the second half to secure their third straight win on Saturday night (Nov. 20).

In what was a frantically paced game, the QU Hawks found themselves trailing for most of the first half. Adam Moore started off the game with a thunderous break-away dunk, but this was the only lead Quincy held until 3:45 was left in the first half.

Purdue Northwest's largest lead came with 9:25 left before the half when the Pride jumped ahead 31-20.

The Hawks never wavered and clawed their way back behind a 15-5 run. This run brought the game back to a 35-35 tie with 3:45 to go before the intermission.

QU regained the lead shortly after when Malik Hardmon converted on a layup to put the Hawks ahead 37-35. In the final three minutes, the Pride outscored the home team 7-2 and took a 42-39 lead into the break.

In the first five minutes of the second half, PNW retained the lead 49-45, but Quincy rattled off six straight points to go ahead 51-49. Malik Hardmon scored all six points, and finished the game with over 20 points for the fourth time in as many games.

The Pride briefly regained the lead once again with 12:13 to play, 52-51, but the Hawks went on the attack yet again. Quincy scored seven of the next nine points to move back in front 59-54.

With under four minutes to play, Adam Moore knocked down a clutch three to extend QU's lead to eight points, 74-66. The Pride scored on the ensuing possession to bring it to a six-point lead, but QU was able to get enough stops and make crucial free throws down the stretch.

The Hawks outscored PNW 42-28 in the second half and had four players in double figures on the offensive end. Hardmon led all scorers with 25 points while he also corralled eight rebounds. Jamaurie Coakley and Paul Zilinskas each had 13 points, while Adam Moore chipped in ten points and eight rebounds. QU won 81-70 to move to 3-1 on the season.
