QUINCY, Ill. - Two new faces on the QU men's basketball team helped lead the Hawks to victory in the second game of the season on Saturday evening (Nov. 13).
Malik Hardmon and
Nate Shockey combined for 55 of QU's 88 points in their first win of the season over Cedarville.
After last night's up and down offensive output, the Hawks solidified themselves in the paint. Quincy outscored Cedarville 46-26 in the painted area and shot 51% from the field.
At the half, the Hawks trailed by one point, but they turned it on in the second half. Quincy came out on fire and outscored Cedarville 16-5 in the first 5:20 of the second period. With 14:40 to go, the home squad held a ten-point lead, 59-49.
Cedarville was able to cut the deficit to five points before the Hawks rattled off seven straight points to get their lead back in double figures, 66-54.
This was all the cushion needed for QU to keep the Yellow Jackets at bay. Quincy's largest lead came with 6:26 left in the game when
Nate Shockey converted a layup to give the Hawks a 17-point lead, 76-59. QU went on to win, 88-77.
Malik Hardmon scored 23 points for the second straight game while Shockey had 22. The duo shot a combined 18-29 (62%) from the field and combined for 15 rebounds.
Adam Moore also scored in double figures after adding 12 points on 5-8 shooting, and
Jamaurie Coakley led the team in rebounds with ten boards on the night.
