QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball returned to the friendly confines of Pepsi Arena on Tuesday night (Oct. 5) for a midweek conference matchup with Drury. The Hawks came out firing and won the game in four sets 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-21.
The Hawks got off to a good start on Tuesday night after hitting .263 as a team in the opening set. On top of that, Quincy's defense held the Panthers to an anemic .094 percentage on their attacks. QU won the first set 25-18.
Things flipped in the second set as Drury was able to gain the advantage midway through the set behind an 8-2 run. The Hawks trailed 16-12 after Drury's run and did not regain the lead. QU made a late run behind three straight points to make it 23-20, but Drury scored the last two points to tie it at one set a piece.
The Hawks got back on track in the third set behind a strong offensive effort. Quincy hit nearly .400 in the third set behind 13 kills on 28 attempts with only two attacking errors. Drury was held to a .143 hitting percentage in the set as they committed eleven total errors. QU won the third, 25-18.
Quincy kept the momentum rolling and sealed the deal in the fourth set. Down the stretch in the final set, the Hawks outscored Drury 9-5 to take the game in four sets by a final score of 25-21.
Four different Hawks had double-digit kills on the night.
Emma Wijnbergen and
Emily Rehagen had eleven kills each while
Mattie Norris and
Sarah Brown each added ten.
Makayla Knoblauch recorded a double-double by dishing out 39 assists and digging out 22 Drury attacks.
