Hawks Drop Thriller In Final Game

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team ended the 2019 season with a thrilling game at Pepsi Arena. The Hawks fell in a close battle with Indianapolis 86-83. 

Play by Play
1st Half
Both teams opened the game with made baskets from 3-point range. Senior Demetrius Houston collected a quick seven points as the Hawks led 10-7 at the first media timeout. 

With 12:54 remaining, Indianapolis took a 17-15 lead. Demetrius Houston later tied the score with a deep three to make the score 22-22.

Jah-Kobe Womack gave QU the lead again with a two point basket. Quincy led 25-24 with nine minutes to play in the first half. 

Quincy remained in the lead until 4:36 left in the first half. The Greyhounds gained a 38-36 lead after a made 3-point basket. Paulo Camillo later tied the game with a basket in the paint. 

Both teams remained within three points of each other the rest of the first half. Quincy took a slight 47-46 edge into the locker room. 

2nd Half
Camillo started the half with a bang by collecting an early steal and taking it coast-to-coast a dunk. 

At the five minute media timeout, the Hawks still held a slight lead 54-53 over the Greyhounds. 

Indianapolis scored the next six of eight points to go ahead 59-55 with twelve minutes remaining. Paulo Camillo added a lay up to make the deficit two points. 

At the ten minute mark, the Greyhounds still held a slight lead over the Hawks. Demetrius Houston made a 3-pointer to make the score 61-60, but Indy answered with a basket to make it 63-60. 

Indianapolis was later fouled on a shot from beyond the arc and all three free throws were made. Quincy answered with a lay up by Camillo, but Indy gained a 68-62 with another basket. Eight minutes remained in the game. 

Quincy scored twice to cut the Indianapolis lead to just two points with under seven to play. 

At the four minute mark, the Greyhounds clung to a 74-71 lead. De'Andre Alexander knocked in a pair of free throws to make it a one-point game. 

The Greyhounds knocked in a 3-pointer with 3:34 left to extend their lead to 77-73. Quincy slimmed the margin to 77-76 with two minutes to play after two trips to the free throw line. 

Ryan Briscoe tied the score with a strong drive the basket with a foul. He made the free throw to bring the tally to 80-79. 

The Greyhounds hit a 3-pointer on the following possession to move back up by four points. A minute and eight seconds were left on the clock. 

With under a minute to play, Indianapolis clung to an 83-81 lead. An injury stopped the clock with 29 seconds left to play during a Greyhound possession. 

Quincy fouled to stop the clock and sent Indy to the line. The Greyhounds sunk one of the two shots and QU corralled the rebound. Head coach Ryan Hellenthal called timeout with 23.1 seconds left to draw up a play. The score was 84-81. 

Demetrius Houston drove the lane and converted a lay up attempt to make it a one-point game. Quincy fouled on the inbounds with 13 seconds left. 

Jah-Kobe Womack's corner three to tie sat on the rim but fell out as the Hawks lost a thriller 86-83 in the final game of 2019.
