QUINCY, Ill.- The Quincy University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Cedarville University on Friday (Feb. 22). The Hawks dropped the doubleheader by scores of 2-0 and 7-1.
Play by Play
Game 1
Through the first three innings of the game, both teams remained silent as just two runners were left on base.
Cedarville struck first in the top of the fourth inning.
The leadoff hitter for the Yellow Jackets reached on an error by the Hawks. A stolen base and a walk put runners on first and second with no one out.
A second QU error led to an unearned run and a 1-0 Yellow Jackets lead.
Two batters later, the Yellow Jackets added a second run on an RBI single to put Cedarville ahead 2-0.
The Hawks were able to end the inning by getting a groundout and a strikeout.
Quincy's offense was held to just two hits in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Hawks best opportunity to score game in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Kay Bettendorf singled to center field with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball with two outs in the inning.
Megan Sharpshair drew walk to put runners on first and second with two outs in the frame.
Morgan Heckman flew out to center field to end the game and the Yellow Jackets defeated QU 2-0 in game one.
Game 2
The Yellow Jackets took advantage of several Hawks miscues in the top of the first inning. Cedarville scored four runs on one hit and a pair of Hawks errors.
In the bottom second inning,
Kylie Powers doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. The Hawks were retired in order following the double to end the QU scoring chance.
Four Hawks errors led to three Yellow Jackets runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Hawks trailed the 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Kylie Powers put runners at the corners with no outs.
Megan Shaprshair struck out looking to bring
Morgan Heckman to the plate.
Heckman lifted a fly ball to the outfield that was deep enough to score Bettendorf with a sac fly.
The Hawks were only able to score one run in the frame.
QU had another opportunity to put runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Bettendorf led off again with a double. The next three Hawks were retired to end the inning.
The Hawks fell to the Yellow Jackets 7-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
