Women's Basketball Drops Sixth Straight

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The QU women's basketball team could not end their losing streak on Thursday.  The Hawks fell 81-67 on the road at Rockhurst. 

Play by Play
1st Half
Rockhurst came out on fire. The home team opened the game by shooting 9-12 (75%) while making five of their six 3-point attempts. 

The Hawks were not as efficient, but still made half of their shots in the quarter. At the end of the first, QU trailed 23-12. 

In the second quarter, Quincy scored the first five points after a 3-pointer by Ella Gobald and a lay up by Lexi Doyle. The score was 23-17. 

Midway through the second quarter, Rockhurst got out to a 34-19 lead with 4:55 remaining. Maddie Spagnola ended the 11-2 run by Rockhurst with a lay up. 

Quincy outscored Rockhurst 10-4 in the final four minutes to make the score 38-31 at halftime. 

2nd Half
Both teams scored on the opening possession of the third quarter. Alexa Low connected on a jump shot which made the score 41-33. 

After two minutes had passed, Rockhurst pushed their lead to ten. After a basket down low, RU led 43-33. Alexa Low netted another basket on the following possession to cut the deficit to eight. 

With 4:05 left in the third, Taylor Hickey made a jumper to make the score 49-40. Before the third quarter ended, Rockhurst went on a 6-0 run to gain a 55-40 lead going into the last quarter. 

QU could not comeback despite outscoring Rockhurst in the fourth. Quincy went  7-12 from the field and got to the free throw line 15 times. QU made eleven of those attempts. 

Rockhurst kept QU at bay with equally as efficient shooting, going three of three from distance, and making free throws down the stretch. Quincy fell 81-67.
