EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball program faced Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in their final exhibition game on Tuesday night (Nov. 5). The Hawks kept the game close, but did not have a field goal in the final five minutes as SIUE held on for the 61-52 win.
How It Happened
Quincy found themselves in an early hole to start the game. SIUE went ahead 16-5 in the first ten minutes of play.
Jonah Smith stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to eight points.
The Hawks were not able to get the Cougars lead to under ten before the half. QU trailed 34-22 heading into the second half.
Five minutes into half number two, the Hawks were able to get within single digits after a layup by
Jonah Smith. Smith led QU in scoring with 18 points in the game.
Tanner Stuckman flipped in a layup with 10:43 to play which made the score 47-40 SIUE. Smith added a three-pointer and
Aziz Fadika knocked in a short distance shot to bring QU within just four points. The score sat at 49-45 with eight and a half minutes to go.
Jonah Smith added another three-pointer with 5:40 left which made it a 52-48 game. Unfortunately for the Hawks, this was their last field goal of the game.
Quincy added four free throws in the last five minutes, but it was not enough to take down the Cougars. Quincy dropped their second exhibition game 61-52.
