Hawks Softball Goes 2-2 At UIS Invitational

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University softball team competed in the UIS Invitational this weekend.  The Hawks went 2-2 on the weekend.  

On Friday, the Hawks dropped a pair of games to the University of Wisconsin Parkside.  The Rangers defeated the Hawks 5-4 and 10-0.  

The Hawks held a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh before the Rangers scored five runs to walk off the Hawks in game one.   

QU scored a run in the first, third, fifth, and seventh innings to take a 4-0 lead.  Morgan Heckman hit the Hawks first home run of the season to give the Hawks the four-run lead.  

The Rangers tied the game with a grand slam and later scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch to secure the 5-4 win.  

Heckman finished the first game 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs.  

The Hawks offense was held in check in the second game of the day.  

The Rangers scored seven runs in the first three innings and scored three more in the top of sixth to win the game 10-0.  

The Hawks responded with a pair of wins on Sunday (Mar. 4).  The Hawks defeated Purdue Northwest 4-3 and 9-8.  

Remi Ferguson walked and was doubled home by Megan Sharpshair Raigen Schwartz doubled to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.  Schwartz would score on an error by the Pride to take a 3-0 lead.  

The Pride scored a run in third and the fifth to cut the Hawks lead to 3-2.  

Heckman continued her impressive weekend, doubling home Jessica Poore to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead.  

Purdue Northwest scored another run in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3.  

The Pride put a pair of runners on in the top of the seventh but Mac Kenzie Collier got a groundout to end the game.  

Collier improved to 3-0 on the season, tossing a complete game.  She scattered 11 hits allowing three runs and striking out seven.  

QU fell behind in the second game of the day.  The Pride led the Hawks 2-0 heading into the fourth.  

Megan Sharpshair scored when Kay Bettendorf doubled her home.  Heckman drove home Jessica Poore in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. 

The Pride took the lead back after a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.  

The Hawks scored four runs in the top of the sixth, capped off by a Kylie Powers RBI single.  

Purdue Northwest answered with three runs in their half of the sixth to take an 8-7 lead into the seventh.  

The Hawks scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead 9-8.  

Sara Demuth finished off her complete game by getting a flyout to the second baseman.  

Megan Sharpshair went 4-4 in the second game with three runs scored.  Morgan Heckman went 3-4 in game two with three RBIs and a run scored.
