2nd Half Pushes Knights Past Hawks

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team fell to the Bellarmine Knights 79-60 Thursday night (Feb. 1).  A big second half by the Knights was the difference as Bellarmine used a 29 point fourth quarter to secure their 12th victory of the season.

Scoring was at a premium in the first quarter as both teams struggled to find the mark.  The Knights held a 13-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.

The Hawks found their way offensively in the second quarter, led by senior Anika Webster who scored seven of the Hawks 17 points in the quarter.

QU held the Knights to 13 points in the quarter and cut the Knights lead to two before heading into the half.

Webster continued her strong performance on the night scoring 10 points in the third quarter.

The Hawks trailed by eight with 1:15 to play in the third quarter before the Knights lead was cut to four after a Maddie Spagnola layup and a pair of free throws by Alexsandra Petrovic.

A pair of free throws for Bellarmine just before the end of the quarter pushed the lead back to six.

The Knights outscored the Hawks 10-2 in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to take a 63-46 lead with 6:06 to play.

The Hawks could bring the lead no closer and fell to the Knight 79-60.

QU was led by Webster, who finished with 25 points on 9-15 shooting.  Alexa Low finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Hawks fall to 7-14, 3-9 in the GLVC.  QU continues its road trip, Saturday (Feb. 3) against Southern Indiana at 1:00 p.m.
