Men's Soccer Ends Regular Season With 1-0 Win Over UIS

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Adam Whybrow and the Quincy defense recorded its second shut out of the season to help the Hawks get to 8-8-2 on the year. Kingsford Adjei scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute.

Play by Play
Illinois-Springfield was the first to attack on Wednesday evening. Alex Morais got off a header shot in the 6th minute, but Adam Whybrow was there to collect the save.

In the 9th minute, Aubrey Reis had two header shots blocked within a minute of each other, and the game remained scoreless.

Kingsford Adjei tried his luck in the 18th and 24th minute but missed the mark high and wide on both attempts.

The Hawks were able to fire eight shots in the first half. None were on goal as both teams took a 0-0 tie into the half.

Within the first two minutes of the second half, Justin Armfield sent a header on goal, but the UIS keeper stepped in front for the save.

In the 54th minute, Adam Whybrow made his second save of the game on a shot from Daniel Kemp to keep the game tied.

Quincy broke through less than ten minutes later on a goal from Kingsford Adjei. Adjei scored on a feed from senior Kyle Fraser to put the Hawks ahead 1-0.

After the goal, QU looked to hold the lead by emphasizing a defensive mentality. The Hawks only put up three shots in the final 25 minutes with none on goal.

The Quincy back line was up to the challenge and limited the Prairie Stars to only two shots after Adjei's goal.

The Hawks held on for the 1-0 win and now look forward to postseason play this weekend.
