QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team dropped a GLVC matchup to McKendree 55-44 Thursday evening (Jan. 18).
The Hawks and Bearcats were locked in a defensive struggle after a high scoring first quarter. The Bearcats scored 21 first quarter points, scoring the first nine points of the game.
QU and McKendree both struggled to score in the second quarter. The teams combined to score 12 points in the second 10 minutes of action.
The Bearcats led the Hawks 29-15 at the end of the first half.
McKendree scored the opening basket of the second half and held a 31-15 lead over the Hawks. QU went on a 9-0 run to trim the lead to seven with 6:20 to play in the third quarter.
QU outscored the Bearcats 13-8 and trailed McKendree 37-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
After a layup by Anika Webster with 6:43 remaining the Hawks cut the lead to six.
The Hawks trailed by nine with 1:37 to play. QU cut the lead to five after a layup by Taylor Harazin and a pair of free throws by Julia Ruzevich.
McKendree went 6-6 from the foul line in the final 51 seconds to secure the 11 point win.
Anika Webster led all scorers with 13 points and also added five rebounds. Taylor Harazin also scored eight points.
QU fell to 6-11, 2-6 in GLVC play.
The Hawks return home Saturday, January 20th, against the UMSL Tritons at 1:00 p.m.
