QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team fell 81-64 to the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon.
The Hawks offense was firing on all cylinders in the first half, outscoring the Prairie Stars 21-15 in the opening quarter.
The Prairie Stars were just as effective through the initial nine minutes of the first quarter. Illinois Springfield held a 15-14 lead with 1:14 to play in the quarter.
The Hawks scored the final seven points of the first quarter, capped off by a three-pointer by Jessie Rabas with one second to play in the first quarter.
Rabas came into the game as the second-best three-point shooter in the country, shooting over 52% from three-point range.
The Hawks held an eight-point lead with two and a half minutes to play in the first half.
The Prairie Stars outscored the Hawks 11-2 in the final minutes of the first half and held a 40-39 lead heading into the locker room.
QU retook the lead on a layup by Julia Ruzevich at the 8:16 mark in the third quarter.
With the score tied a 43-43, Illinois Springfield on an 8-0 run to take a 51-43 lead.
The lead remained at eight at the start of the fourth quarter.
The Prairie Stars used strong three-point shooting to grab control of the game.
The Hawks were outscored 23-14 in the final quarter and fell to the Prairie Stars 81-64.
Anika Webster and Julia Ruzevich each scored 14 points for QU.
QU falls to 5-10, 1-5 in the GLVC.
