QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team fell to the Culver-Stockton Wildcats 76-66.
The Hawks jumped out to a 9-2 lead behind five quick points by leading scorer Anika Webster.
The Hawks scored 11 points on Culver-Stockton turnovers in the first quarter.
QU led the Wildcats 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Culver-Stockton battled back in the second quarter, outscoring the Hawks 12-5 in the first three minutes and forty-two seconds of the quarter.
QU responded by going on a 7-0 run to retake the lead 25-20 with 2:43 remaining in the half.
The Hawks pushed the lead to seven after a three-pointer by Midori Williams.
A three-pointer by the Wildcats with 34 seconds to play in the first half brought the Hawks lead to four just before the half.
The Hawks and Wildcats battled throughout the third quarter.
With 5:11 remaining in the third quarter, guard Michaela Gronewold extended the Hawks lead to five.
The Wildcats responded on their next possession by knocking down a three-pointer and bringing the Hawks lead back to two.
QU led the Wildcats 42-40 with 1:48 to play in the quarter. Midori Williams hit another three-pointer to put the Hawks back up by five.
Culver-Stockton tied the game at 47-47 with 12 seconds to play in the third.
Jessica Merino put the Hawks back on top with a layup with three seconds to play in the quarter.
The Hawks first possession of the fourth quarter put the Hawks up four on a jumper by Alexa Low.
A 5-0 run by the Wildcats gave Culver-Stockton a 52-51 lead.
Anika Webster tied the game at 52 with a free throw with 8:26 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Hawks and Wildcats traded three-pointers and the score read 55-55 with 7:59 to play in the game.
A 7-0 run put the Wildcats up 62-55 with 6:07 remaining.
QU answered, scoring on their next two possessions to cut the lead to 62-59.
The Hawks trailed by two with 55 seconds remaining.
Culver-Stockton went 8-8 from the foul line down the stretch and held off the Hawks 76-66.
Anika Webster led the Hawks with 20 points.
QU falls to 3-7 on the year and will be back in action December 30th against Missouri Western in St. Joseph's, Missouri.
