QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team traveled to Macomb to take on Western Illinois in an exhibition contest Thursday (Nov. 2). The Hawks were defeated by the Leathernecks 87-50.
The Leathernecks went 10-19 from the field in the first quarter and grabbed a 27-17 lead at the end of the first period of play.
The Hawks were outscored 18-16 in the second quarter and went into the half trailing 45-33.
QU shot just 8-38 in the second half and were outscored 42-17.
Western Illinois shot 44.7% from the field and made 13 three-point shots. The Hawks were limited to just 30.9% shooting and were 5-27 from behind the arc.
Maddie Spagnola (Elgin, IL / St. Edward Central) led the Hawks with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Hawks take on Illinois Wesleyan in another exhibition contest Sunday (Nov. 5) before beginning regular play in Nashville next weekend.
