QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University football team was defeated by the Missouri S&T Miners 63-16 Saturday afternoon, in the final game of the 2017 season.
A potent Missouri S&T rushing offense was too much for the Hawks as the Miners racked up 343 rushing yards.
After a Hawks three and out the Miners took over at their own 45-yard line. Missouri S&T scored on a 27-yard touchdown run to go up 7-0.
On the Hawks next offensive play, QU gave the ball back to the Miners after
Chris Harris (Springfield, IL / Sacred Heart Griffin) fumbled.
Another Miners touchdown run put S&T up 14-0.
QU committed another turnover when
Andrew Rund's (St. Louis, MO / Saint Louis Priory) pass was intercepted at the Missouri S&T 48 yard-line.
The Miners scored on the following possession to take a 21-0 lead.
The Hawks were unable to score on their next two possessions and the Miners took advantage by scoring twice to extend the lead to 35-0.
QU took over with 9:51 the Hawks took over at their own 35-yard line. After a five-yard rush, Trey Mosley's (Belleville, IL / Althoff Catholic) pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown as the Hawks fell behind 42-0.
The Hawks finally got on the scoreboard as
Andrew Rund found Owen Schoenenenberger (Evansville, WI / Evansville) for a 15-yard score. The Hawks trailed 42-7 with 6:25 remaining in the first half.
Missouri S&T scored on a 73-yard rush by Deshawn Jones on their next drive to push the lead to 49-7.
This would be the final scoring event of the first half, as QU turned the ball over twice inside the Miners 34-yard line and could not cut into the lead.
The Hawks forced a turnover on an interception by
Chrys Colley (Edwardsville, IL / Edwardsville).
QU would kick a field goal on their following possession to trim the lead to 49-10.
Missouri S&T used a nine play, 63-yard drive capped off by a Tyler Swart one yard TD run to take a 56-10 lead.
Another Miner touchdown in the fourth quarter extended the lead to 63-10.
The Hawks scored one final time on a touchdown pass from Trey Mosley to
Owen Schoenenberger with nine minutes remaining in the game.
This would be the final score of the game as the Hawks fell to the Miners 63-16.
Cody Leonard (Carrollton, IL / Carrollton) led the Hawks with nine tackles.
QU finishes the 2017 season 3-8, 1-6 in the GLVC.
