QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team was defeated by nationally-ranked Ferris State 75-60 to open the 2017-2018 season.
The Bulldogs held an 18-0 lead through the first six minutes, with the Hawks missing their first 11 shots from the floor.
Marcus Hinton (Florissant, MO / Hazelwood Central) got the Hawks on the board with his layup at the 14:10 mark in the first half.
Despite the slow start, QU held the Bulldogs to just 12 points for the remainder of the first half.
The Hawks knocked down four three-pointers in the first half to trim the lead to 30-24 before the half.
A 7-0 run to start the second half extended the Ferris State lead to 37-24.
Demetrius Houston (Birmingham, AL) brought the Bulldog lead to 43-37 on a lay-up with 11 minutes remaining in the game.
The Hawks shot 2-9 from the foul line in the second half and could not bring the lead any closer despite shooting nearly 49% from the field in the half.
The Bulldogs shot 48% from the field in the second half and went 12-14 from the foul line.
Ryan Briscoe led the Hawks with 16 points on 5-11 shooting. Marcus Hinton also added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Ferris State remains undefeated at 3-0 and the Hawks fall to 0-1 on the season.
QU will take on Grand Valley State tomorrow (Nov. 11) at 5:30 p.m. ET.
