Hawks Win Alumni Cup With Shutout Over Lions

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team put together plenty of chances, made one count and finished off a shutout to defeat Lindenwood, 1-0, on Monday (Sept. 5) night at Legends Stadium.

With the win, the Hawks claimed the QU Alumni Cup, the program's season-opening event that also featured Truman State and Northeastern State.

The Hawks (2-0) got moving in the first minute as they nearly took a one-goal lead less than 30 seconds into the game as sophomore forward Eddie Plesha (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) got into the box and slid a pass across the goal mouth, but junior forward Artan Emini (Yorkville, Ill.) just couldn't get a foot on it to slide it home.

Quincy continued to apply pressure in the first half, collecting five corner kicks and taking seven shots before finally getting on the board in the 35th minute.

Senior midfielder Scott Ladi (Florissant, Mo./De Smet) blistered a shot on target, which Lindenwood keeper Aleksa Nenadic pushed away, but it fell right at the feet of senior forward Pete Condol (Mount Carmel, Ill.), who only had to tap it in for his second goal in as many nights. Ladi picked up his second assist on the play.

Meanwhile, the Hawks' defense stymied a typically potent Lindenwood attack. The Lions managed just five shots in the game and only one prior to halftime as the Hawks looked in control. Quincy attempted 15 shots with five coming on goal.

Junior keeper Nate Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) was called on just twice to make saves as he posted the shutout.

The Hawks will now enter conference play later this week when they hit the road to take on Illinois Springfield on Friday (Sept. 9). Kickoff with the Prairie Stars is set for 7:30 p.m.
