Lady Hawks End Season at #2 Indianapolis

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University softball team ended the 2016 season on Sunday (April 24) afternoon, falling to No. 2 Indianapolis, 4-0 and 12-3, in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
 
The Lady Hawks (16-28, 9-21 GLVC) were no-hit in the opener by UIndy senior and three-time All-American Morgan Foley. Quincy scored the first two runs in Game 2, but the Greyhounds came back with five runs in the third inning before pulling away.
 
In the opener, the Lady Hawks could not get anything going against Foley (34-2), who tossed her fourth no-hitter of the season for the Greyhounds (45-3, 26-3 GLVC). She walked three and struck out 13.
 
UIndy scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings off QU starter Meghan Quirk (Minooka, Ill.), who took the loss (4-7). She allowed three earned runs in six innings with two walks and one strikeout.
 
Jenny Thompson and Cassie Reed each homered for the Greyhounds.
 
Quincy opened the scoring in Game 2 off Indianapolis starter Miranda Tamayo. In the first inning, freshman Jackie Farbak (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) and junior Lindsey Greene (Ottawa, Ill.) recorded back-to-back one-out doubles to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In the third, the Lady Hawks were helped by two errors as senior Rachel Scrum (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville/UT-Martin) reached on a dropped fly ball and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Karli McLaughlin (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg).
 
Quincy freshman starter Kasey Bradley (Waterloo, Ill.) pitched out of jams in the first two innings, but the 'Hounds touched her up for five runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
 
The Lady Hawks scored an unearned run off Foley in the fifth as freshman Dana Walsh (Wonder Lake, Ill./McHenry) reached on an error. Sophomore Abby Burton (Springfield, Ill./Glenwood) and senior Rebecca Powers (Manchester, Mo./Kennedy Catholic) followed with consecutive singles to load the bases. Senior Samantha Ledbetter (Tuscola, Ill./Olney Central) then hit a sac fly to make it 5-3.
 
The Greyounds put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and four more in the sixth.
 
Bradley (4-9) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings. Foley (35-2) earned the win with 3 2/3 relief innings. She struck out eight and allowed an unearned run on five hits.
 
Farbak and Greene each finished with two hits, while Farbak reached base three times, adding a walk.
