Hawks Fall To Northern Michigan on Sunday

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team fell behind early against Northern Michigan and was unable to make up the difference as the Wildcats came away with a 59-46 win in the finale of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge in Allendale, Mich. on Sunday (Nov. 13) afternoon.
 
The Hawks (0-2) scored the first bucket of the game on a jumper by senior forward Cha Cha Williams (Bolingbrook, Ill./Seton Hill), but Northern Michigan (2-0) scored the next 10 points and led by 10, 22-12, after the first quarter.
 
Quincy took advantage of seven NMU turnovers in the second quarter, turning them into 11 points. The Hawks closed the half on a 5-0 run on a basket by freshman post Alexa Low (Beavercreek, Ohio) and a 3-pointer by senior guard Nikia Edom (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East/Murray State) to cut the deficit to 33-28.
 
The Hawks could never get closer than five points in the second half, though, as the Wildcats were able to close out the game.
 
Edom and sophomore forward Sarah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis.) led the Hawks with eight points apiece. Junior forward Anika Webster (Springfield, Ill.) added seven points and Low and sophomore guard Taylor Hickey (Keokuk, Iowa/Burlington Notre Dame) scored six points.
 
The Hawks shot 31.9 percent (15-for-47) from the field, while the Wildcats connected at a 40.8 percent (20-for-49) clip. NMU also held a 38-25 edge on the glass.
 
The Hawks will play their home opener on Friday (Nov. 18) at 7 p.m. against Minnesota State-Moorhead in the QU Subway Tip-Off Classic at Pepsi Arena. The first game of the day will feature Maryville and Winona State at 5 p.m.
