GAMEDAY CENTRAL: Hawks Cap Season With Senior Day

Missouri S&T Miners (4-6, 3-4 GLVC) at Quincy University Hawks (5-5, 3-4 GLVC)
Quincy, Ill. | QU Stadium
Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 | 1 p.m.

THE FINAL GAME: The Quincy University football team plays the final game of the 2016 season on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Hawks welcome Missouri S&T to QU Stadium. The Hawks will also celebrate Senior Day prior to the game, recognizing the players playing in their final home game.

RECENT HISTORY: This will be the fifth meeting between the Hawks and Miners since both programs became affiliated with the GLVC in 2012. Quincy is 1-3 in the first four meetings, picking up its lone win, 20-13, in 2014 at Flinn Stadium. The Hawks trailed, 13-10, after a fourth quarter touchdown by the Miners, but Quincy recorded the final two scores of the game – a 40-yard field goal and a one-yard rush by Nick Lonergan to cap a 74-yard drive with 2:52 to play.

LAST WEEK: The Hawks never led last week as McKendree scored the first 14 points of the game, eventually beating Quincy, 35-17. Quincy was unable to establish the running game in the first half, mustering only 35 yards on the ground. That picked up considerably on the first drive of the third quarter, but the drive stalled at the 1-yard line. Still playing catch-up, the Hawks could not get into a rhythm offensively without the run-pass balance they're accustomed to producing. Redshirt-sophomore quarterback Robbie Kelley (Rochester, Ill.) threw for 147 yards, but was sacked a season-high six times. That doubled the previous high allowed by the QU offense.

ADEHKEEM THIEVERY: Redshirt-junior Adehkeem Brown (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) is climbing up the QU record books in interceptions. Last week, he intercepted his fifth pass of the season. It was his second straight game with a pick. He ranks second in the GLVC in that category and is two shy of matching QU's single-season record. Brown is third on the program's all-time list with nine interceptions.WORST TO FIRST: The Hawks still rank as the top defense in the GLVC, allowing just 317.2 yards per game. Quincy has allowed just two opponents to gain 400 yards of offense and none over 467 yards. Last season, the Hawks were last in the league in total defense, giving up 457 yards per game. They allowed six teams to gain 400 yards, including two that gained more than 600.

RECORD SETTER: Senior wide receiver Eric Poindexter (Newport News, Va./Warwick/Monroe College) needs just 56 yards to reach 3,000 for his career. He is currently the NCAA Division II career leader among active players with 95.0 receiving yards per game. Poindexter also ranks sixth in Division II in receiving yards and fourth all-purpose yards per game (189.2). Earlier this season against William Jewell, Poindexter set school and GLVC records with 20 receptions and 317 yards.

EIGHTH AT 100: Redshirt-junior running back Chris Harris (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin), who missed the first two games of the season with a knee injury, broke out in a big way last week with 110 yards on 22 carries against McKendree. It was the eighth time in his career, and first since Oct. 31, 2015, that Harris hit the century mark on the ground. With his three-yard touchdown last week, Harris now has 26 touchdowns in his career, moving him into second place on QU's all-time list behind Rob Munson (1992-94), who has 39.

KELLEY'S RECORDS TOO: Redshirt-sophomore quarterback Robbie Kelley (Rochester, Ill.) is also beginning to etch his name into the record book. His 26-yard touchdown strike to Poindexter last week made him the program's single-season record holder with 22 touchdown passes, surpassing Nick Lonergan's 21 from last year. He is also fourth in single-season passing yardage (2,290) with Lonergan holding down the top three spots. The top figure of 2,606 yards was set in 2014.

GOTTA GET PRESSURE: The Hawks have managed to generate just 13 quarterback sacks this season and do not have any in the last two weeks. They have not recorded multiple sacks in a game since a Sept. 24 game against Southwest Baptist and are tied for eighth in the GLVC in that category. A strong opportunity comes this week as the Miners allow the third most quarterback sacks (35) in the GLVC. Even with their struggles applying pressure, the Hawks defense has allowed the fewest passing yards in the conference (171.6 per game). QU is also tied for second in the league with 13 interceptions.

NO FLAG ON THE FIELD: The Hawks have the second-fewest penalties (50) in the GLVC and have the lowest amount of penalty yardage (43.4 per game) in the conference.
