Hawks Win Sixth Straight, Blank Truman 2-0

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's soccer team is peaking at the right time as the Hawks closed the regular season with its sixth straight win, defeating Truman State, 2-0, on Wednesday (Hawktober 26) night at Legends Stadium.

The Hawks (11-4-2, 9-4-2 GLVC) earned the No. 5 seed in the GLVC Tournament and will travel Springfield, Mo. to take on Drury in the quarterfinal on Sunday. Kickoff time is yet to be released.

Quincy controlled play from the outset, out-shooting the Bulldogs (6-7-4, 4-7-3 GLVC), 16-3, including a 13-3 edge in the first half.

QU got on the board in the 17th minute as sophomore forward Eddie Plesha (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) took his run into the box and passed to senior midfielder Taylor Reis (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame). Senior forward Pete Condol (Mount Carmel, Ill.) made a trailing run just outside the box and Reis dropped off a pass for Condol, whose shot deflected off the keeper's hands and tucked just inside the right post. Condol now has six goals on the year.

After carrying their 1-0 lead into halftime, the Hawks added an insurance goal in the 59th minute. The Hawks won a turnover near midfield and the ball came to Reis. He slid a perfect ball behind the defense to redshirt-junior forward Jordan Stephens (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell), who finished past Truman keeper Zac Suazo. Stephens now has four goals while Reis took over the team lead with six assists.

Junior goalkeeper Nate Griffin (St. Louis, Mo./CBC) needed to make just two saves to preserve the third shutout of the season for the QU back line.

The Hawks had a 7-2 lead in corner kicks.
