Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Nicholas Kedzuch

No. 13 Hawks Fall, 2-1, at Saint Joseph's

RENSSELAER, Ind. - The No. 13 Quincy University men's soccer team lost their first game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference this season at Saint Joseph's College, 2-1. SJC got on the board in the first half. The Hawks were able to tie the game early in the second half, but the Pumas scored late to secure the win. The match had nine cards including one red on Friday night.

The Pumas (4-2, 3-2 GLVC) were tested early by the No. 13 Hawks (5-2, 4-1 GLVC), but Adam Whybrow was up to the challenge stopping four shots in the first half.

SJC capitalized on an Erick Turner shot that was blocked and deflected across to the right side of the goal where Alejandro Rosales was waiting to finish top shelf in the 33rd minute.

Nate Griffin had three saves in the first half for the Hawks.

The Hawks came out firing in the second half and were rewarded when a Xhovani Dokaj gathered a losse ball off his own corner kick and sent it across the box to Pete Condol who flicked in the header back to the right post for his first goal of the year in the 57th minute.

The Pumas had another fortunate bounce in the 88th minute when Peter Munro took a chance at the goal that was deflected to the feel of Emilio Portallupi. Portallupi finished to the left of Nate Griffin to earn the game-winning goal.

Whybrow finished with seven saves for the Pumas. Griffin had five saves in net for the Hawks.

Quincy will travel to the University of Indianapolis Sunday (Sept. 27) afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.
