Hawks Shutout Maryville in 3-0 Win

QUINCY, Ill. - The scoring came early and often for No. 20 Quincy University men's soccer in St. Louis against Maryville University. QU scored two goals before the five minute mark and closed out MU in the second half with an early goal out of halftime. The Hawks allowed four shots and Nate Griffin was up to the task making two saves on the only two shots on net from the Saints to earn his first shutout in a QU kit.

The Hawks (3-1, 2-0 GLVC) found success driving the ball in on crosses from out wide. Conner Sendobry sent a ball down the wing to Michael Timmermann in the fourth minute. Timmermann took a touch and sent the ball to an elevated David Geerling who headed in his second goal of the season.

In the fifth minute, Artan Emini sent a cross into the box that deflected off a Saints (2-2, 0-2 GLVC) defender to the feet of Kyle Fraser. Fraser finished from 15 yards out to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Maryville managed one off target shot leaving goalkeeper Nate Griffin untested in the first half.

Scott Prsha sent in a cross from the left to Taylor Reis in the 52nd minute. Reis finished with a net-seeking missile upper-90 at the left post for his first goal of the season.

Nate Griffin was tested twice in the second half and made two saves to keep a clean sheet.

The Hawks welcome the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to Legends Stadium on Friday (Sept. 18). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Jack Mackenzie Field.
