Quincy Stumbles at Missouri S&T

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team relied heavily on their defense with 12 blocks and 60 digs, but struggled to get on a roll offensively at Missouri S&T. S&T topped QU 3-0 on Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon. The Hawks had five ball-handling errors, six receiving errors and just 24 assists. The Miners finished with 40 kills, 67 digs, and a .164 hitting percentage.

Bekah Raebel and Stephanie Mizeur combined for five kills to start the first set as QU (11-13, 5-6 GLVC) took a 7-2 lead. 

The Miners (17-8, 8-3 GLVC) went on the offensive and took an 11-10 lead. They expanded the lead to 21-17 before taking the set 25-21.

With the second set tied 9-9, the Miners went on a 6-1 run to take a 15-10 lead. S&T used a four point run to extend their lead to 22-13 before eventually taking the second set 25-16.

The third set was tied at 9-9 when the Miners used a four point run to take a 13-9 lead. QU turned the tide with a 7-3 run to tie the set at 16-16. The Miners rattled off eight straight points to take a 24-16 lead. The Hawks went on a five point run including three blocks to pull within three points. The Miners ended the game with a kill to win the third set 25-21 and take the match.

Bekah Raebel led the Hawks with eight kills and five total blocks. Emily Lindemulder and Jessica Licurgo also chipped in five blocks. Rachel Shores finished with 16 digs. Marissa Gonzalez recorded 11 digs. 

Carlie Combs led the Miners with 12 kills. Alexis White set 29 assists. Jackie Pyles recorded 16 digs. Caitlin Brocker had 11 digs and three aces.

The Hawks head East next weekend to face the University of Indianapolis on Friday (Oct. 30). First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT in Indianapolis, Ind.
