Hawks Take a Set from No. 20 West Texas A&M, Fall to McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team had back-to-back matches on Friday (Sept. 19) against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent McKendree University and No. 20 West Texas A&M University.  McK took three straight sets from QU.  The Hawks came back in the nightcap with a lot of energy in the first set, but fell 29-27 in a hard fought set.  The Hawks were able to take the third set, 25-17, but fell 3-1 in the match.  Bekah Raebel finished with 20 kills in two matches.

The Hawks (2-8, 0-3 GLVC) had a .218 hitting percentage against McK (5-2, 2-1 GLVC) in the match.  The Bearcats had a .294 hitting percentage with above a .300 attacking percentage in the first and third sets.  

The Bearcats took the first set 25-19.  

The Hawks had a 24-19 lead in the second set, but the Bearcats battled all the way back to win the set 26-24 with seven straight points.

McK finished with a 25-23 win in the third set.

The Hawks were a presence at the net in the second match of the day against No. 20 West Texas A&M (8-2).  QU finished with 14.5 total blocks and a .227 hitting percentage.  The Buffaloes hit .233 in the match with 81 digs.

The Hawks kept the first set close and pushed ahead with a 25-24 lead.  The Buffaloes tallied two points to push ahead by one.  QU tied the match at 27-27 with a Samantha Haegele kill.  West Texas A&M scored two straight points to take the first set marathon 29-27.

The Buffaloes took the second set 25-21.

QU scored six straight points in the third set to take a 18-10 lead.  The Hawks cruised to a 25-17 set win aided by block assists from Jessica Licurgo and Gianna Lincoln, and Licurgo and Samantha Haegele.

West Texas A&M took the third set 25-18 to win the match, 3-1.

The Hawks were led by Bekah Raebel with 20 kills in the two matches.  Raebel also had six block assists against West Texas A&M.  Jessica Licurgo added 11 kills and six block assists in the second match.  Gianna Lincoln led the team against the Buffaloes with 12 kills.  Sommer Holder had 38 digs on the day.  

The Hawks travel to the University of Illinois Springfield tomorrow (Sept. 20) for a GLVC match starting at 3:00 p.m.
