Lady Hawks Warm Up for Season Tip-off in Exhibition Tilt with SIU

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team spread around their 57 points with nine players scoring against Southern Illinois University on Friday night (Nov. 7).  SIU topped QU, 72-57, in an exhibition matchup.  The Lady Hawks scored 30 of their 57 points in the paint and held a seven-point lead early in the first half.  QU shot 44.9% from the field, but hit one of 15 from beyond the three-point line.

The Lady Hawks' lone three-pointer came off the hand of transfer Nikia Edom just five minutes into the game.  The three gave QU a 9-4 lead and Maggie Cunningham converted a jumped off of a turnover to give the Lady Hawks their largest lead of the night at 11-4.  The Salukis took a 37-25 lead into the half.

Erin Mennemeyer and Anika Webster each had six points for the Lady Hawks.   Nikia Edom added five points.  The Lady Hawks were out-rebounded 20-10 by the Salukis.  

The Lady Hawks finished the second half on a 14-8 run.  SIU won the home exhibition 72-57.

Anika Webster finished the game with 10 points and two rebounds.  Carly Beebe added nine points off the bench and led the Lady Hawks with four rebounds.  Nikia Edom and Erin Mennemeyer each contributed eight points.  Carly Bettencourt and Cierra Young netted six points a piece for QU.  Bettencourt led the team with four assists.  Maggie Cunningham and Kara Gerbus each added four points.  Lauren Gronewold scored two points and gathered two rebounds for the Lady Hawks.

The Salukis were led by Azia Washington with 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench.  Dyana Pierre and Rishonda Napier each scored 14 points.

The Lady Hawks will start regular season action on Friday night (Nov. 14) at 7:00 p.m. against Avila University in the QU Subway Tip-off Classic.  The 15th annual tournament will run on Friday and Saturday when the Lady Hawks play host to Avila, Benedictine University-Springfield, and Missouri Western State University.
