HOMESTANDING HAWKS: The QU football team continues its season-long three-game homestand on Saturday when it welcomes Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Indianapolis to Flinn Stadium for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The remainder of the Hawks' schedule consists of GLVC contests after last week's 65-0 trouncing of Haskell Indian Nations on Homecoming.

VS. THE 'HOUNDS: This is the teams' third meeting all-time and it is the Greyhounds' second trip to Quincy. UIndy left town with a 35-7 win over the Hawks in 2012 in both teams' first-ever GLVC game. Last season, the Hawks visited Key Stadium, and played the Greyhounds tight in the first half, taking a 7-0 lead and trailing just 9-7 at halftime before UIndy rolled up 264 yards in the second half to cruise to a 33-7 win. The Greyhounds are 16-0 all-time in GLVC play.

LOOK AT LAST WEEK: The Hawks are coming off their most lopsided win since the program's reinstatement in 1986 – a 65-0 triumph over Haskell Indian Nations. The Hawks scored on 10 of their 14 possessions in the game and took a 35-0 lead into halftime. Quincy out-gained Haskell, 463-58, and limited the Indians to just eight first downs and minus-2 yards rushing. The Hawks displayed extreme balance offensively with 232 passing yards and 231 rushing yards. They did not attempt a pass in the second half.

POINDEXTER FIRST GLVC S.T. PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sophomore wide receiver Eric Poindexter (Newport News, Va./Warwick/Monroe College) was named the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week after returning three punts for 102 yards and a touchdown. His 47-yard touchdown return gave QU a 35-0 lead going into halftime. He also had returns of 35 and 20 yards and caught four passes for 93 yards and a touchdown to finish with 195 all-purpose yards. His 102 punt return yards are the third-most in GLVC history.

GOOSE EGG: While the 65 points scored last week on the offensive side were impressive in their own right, the defense was equally astute, shutting out the Indians. It was Quincy's first shutout since the Hawks blanked Iowa Wesleyan, 31-0, on Oct. 13, 2011. It was also the eighth shutout in school history. The Hawks allowed 58 total offensive yards – just eight more than the school record set in 1993 against MacMurray.  Haskell had just 12 yards in the second half. The Indians crossed midfield only once and the Hawks forced Haskell into nine three-and-out possessions. The visitors punted 10 times and had three turnovers.

INTERCEPTED: Of their three turnovers, two came via interceptions – the first time Quincy intercepted multiple passes in a game since swiping three throws against Lindenwood-Belleville Sept. 28, 2013. On Saturday, redshirt-freshman cornerback Kyle Harris (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) intercepted his first career pass in the first quarter. In the fourth, true freshman safety Leo Nunez (Saint Cloud, Fla.) stepped in front of a Jennara Bollin pass for his first pick.

HAND IT OVER: For the season, the Hawks have a plus-4 turnover margin, which ranks second in the GLVC (Saint Joseph's, plus-6). Quincy has yet to lose the turnover battle in any game this season. In 2013, the Hawks were minus-1 in turnover margin.

LONERGAN MOVES UP: Redshirt-junior quarterback Nick Lonergan (Jacksonville, Ill.) went 18-26 for 232 yards and a touchdown in last week's win. He also ran for two touchdowns in the game. Lonergan moved up to third on Quincy's all-time list in completions (355), pass attempts (654) and yards (4,387). He is currently fourth in passing touchdowns (31). This season, Lonergan has completed 65.5 percent (72-110) of his throws, which would rank second on QU's single-season list.

GROUND TOUCHDOWNS: The Hawks did not throw a pass in the second half last week, allowing the running game to get to work. The Hawks ran for 173 yards in the second half and finished the game with 232 yards and seven touchdowns, the latter tying their own GLVC record for single-game, previously set against Kentucky Wesleyan last October. Three players rushed for at least 69 yards, led by redshirt-freshman tailback Chris Harris (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart Griffin), who chewed up 83 yards on 17 carries, including two scores. Redshirt-junior Sterling Ross (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) had 72 yards and two touchdowns and redshirt-freshman Blake Swearingen (Highland, Ill.) rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown.

3-POINTER: Redshirt-sophomore kicker Blake Allison (Decatur, Ill./Saint Teresa) attempted his first field goal of the season and was good from a career-high 38 yards in the third quarter. He is now 3-for-3 in his career on field goals. Allison was also 8-for-9 on extra points and averaged a season-high 51.5 yards on kickoffs last week.

NEXT UP: The Hawks welcome GLVC football newcomer Southwest Baptist next Saturday (Oct. 11) for a 1 p.m. kickoff. It will be Quincy's Father-Son Day as kids age 12-and-under and their fathers can spend the day with the Hawks from the pregame meal to the final whistle. Find a registration form for the event on the football page at QUHawks.com.
