No. 6 Hawks Clinch Back-to-Back GLVC Regular Season Titles

QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 6 Quincy University men's soccer team clinched their second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Regular Season Championship with a 6-0 win against Maryville University on Friday night (Oct. 24).  The QU win coupled by Rockhurst University's 1-0 win over Drury University gave the Hawks the outright regular season title.  The Hawks shared the 2013 GLVC Regular Season Championship with the University of Indianapolis last season.

The No. 6 Hawks (15-0-1, 12-0-1 GLVC) continued with their strong offensive output scoring six goals.  The Hawks now have 52 goals this season.  Not to be outdone, the Hawk defense recorded their NCAA-leading 11th shutout of the season.  QU has only allowed seven goals in 2014.

Drew Duncan (15-0-1) made one save on the night and now has a 0.42 goals against average with a 0.881 save percentage and 11 shutouts.

QU took the lead against Maryville (4-8-4, 3-8-2 GLVC) in the 12th minute when Jordan Roberts and Xhovani Dokaj connected on a give-and-go that Dokaj finished from 10 yards out to the back post.

Scott Ladi played the ball ahead to Jordan Roberts in the 27th minute.  Roberts found open space from 25 yards out and buried a shot in the back of the net.

Xhovani Dokaj scored his second goal of the night in the 31st minute.  Steve McAnany sent a corner into the box that Dokaj headed into the net from six yards out for his 14th goal of the season.

Jordan Roberts also scored two goals in the game.  Roberts carried the ball in from 45 yards out and again found space from 25 yards out.  Roberts beat a defender and the keeper to find twine in the 33rd minute for his 18th goal of the season.

Artan Emini knocked in a header from eight yards out in the 41st minute to give the Hawks a 5-0 halftime lead.  Tommy Koerper sent the cross in from the right side that Emini finished for his sixth goal of the season.

Tommy Koerper scored his first goal of his career in the 77th minute.  Jordan Stephens and Pete Condol connected on a couple touch passes to free Koerper at the top of the 18 yard box.  Koerper finished inside the left post to secure the 6-0 victory.

The Hawks fired 21 shots with 13 on net.  Maryville managed three shots with one on goal.

The No. 6 Hawks will travel to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday (Oct. 26).  The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
